john green's new nonfiction, two dozen cookies, & another google antitrust case
a day late and a silver dollar short! get it, a silver dollar? those tiny pancakes? good one, right? 😏 anyway. i really, really hope it is not raining in savannah by the time this gets sent out. if it’s raining someplace else, sorry, but at least it’s not me! ⛈️
what i’m reading 📖
i finished greta & valdin and moved on to one of my most anticipated reads of the year, everything is tuberculosis by john green. yes, the same john green of the fault in our stars and looking for alaska fame. he is so smart and an insanely talented nonfiction writer. this book is short but jam fucking packed with interesting facts and histories. never did i ever think i would know or care this much about tuberculosis.
what’s bessie doing? 🐶
trying to be so brave about all the thunder and lightning we’ve had this week. the potato isn’t exactly known for her calm composure, but we are working through some med changes that will hopefully put some joy in those sweet little puppy dog eyes.

what i’m eating 🍽️
cookies for choice - a fundraiser for planned parenthood organized by the best new boulangerie in town (besides ya know, this newsletter), sixby. lillia said “yolo” and bought us a box of the 24 cookies from restaurants and bakers all across savannah and i won’t name names, but what the fuck was going on here? i know it was for charity but my god, think of the business implications of someone’s first taste of your food being an overbaked, oversalted, overworked cookie! of course there were some really delicious inclusions, but wow did more people miss the mark than i would have expected.
it was still very fun, however, to go through the box and analyze flavors and try new things, and especially to sit at the kitchen counter and do it with a friend on a rainy saturday afternoon.
mostly this is to say, please do let me know if you ever need recommendations on where and where not to get a cookie in savannah. it is apparently a risky business. 🍪
what i’m listening to 🎧
i am having the hardest time discovering new music lately. my usual spotify playlists are letting me down. does anybody have suggestions for some vibey, dancey, summertime, smile inducing music?
the only two songs i’ve saved recently are who knows and undressed.
what i’m watching 📺
oh readers, it’s bad news this week about my just made last week new movie watching goal for the year. let’s not talk about it.
i am making my way through a phineas and ferb rewatch in anticipation of the reboot dropping june 5th. i have so many cozy memories of this show from watching the original premiere with my bff fernanda in 2008 and giving each other nicknames related to the characters (our friendship has made it to the reboot, ferb! guess we’re old!) to watching it in my college apartment on my laptop carefully perched on the edge of my twin bed as i dozed off for afternoon naps.
good news: the show absolutely holds up. so do the songs.
professional noodling 💡
AP reports, google’s digital ad network declared an illegal monopoly, joining its search engine in the penalty box.
i like this quote:
“We disagree with the Court’s decision regarding our publisher tools,” said Lee-Anne Mulholland, Google’s vice president of regulatory affairs. “Publishers have many options and they choose Google because our ad tech tools are simple, affordable and effective.”
as a digital ad buyer of many years, i can confirm… we absolutely choose google because it is the biggest player and you have to spend with them if you want any sort of digital ad presence across the web L O L.
this combined with confirmation that their search engine has gotten worse (i tried to search for the source where i read this… and couldn’t find it. amazing. no notes.) should make for a really ridiculous google marketing live presentation next week. yes, i am willingly going to tune in to be schmoozed/bullshitted for a few hours. 🙃
thanks for reading! catch ya’ll on the flip side. 🥞🍳
Omg I loved Phineas and Ferb, I had no idea there was a reboot. Also the cookie adventure was.... Wild
I bet I still have that cd somewhere if I look hard enough
